When non-sloths react to sloths

“What is this sloth hiding?”

Chelsea (NY): He hid a lil poop in your apartment, up to you to find it.
Tom P. (London): The exact time and nature of your death.
Baxter (Mexico): He is the two-faced sloth. One of the Original Five who roamed the Earth. He is not hiding anything, he is just showing us his vengeful face. On the other side, we can see his forgiveness face.
Chris G. (NY): *Opens fridge to find an empty milk jug. Looks up.*
Kaelin (NY): He just ate the last Pop-Tart but didn’t throw the box away, so your ass is about to be tricked and disappointed.
Candace (LA): He just crop-dusted.
Flo (London): He’s a gay sloth.
Michelle (SF): He’s a cat in a sloth costume from Party City.
Summer (NY): He’s literally a living dwarf planet (like Pluto!) covered in fur and sent to earth to make people happy.
Andrew (NY): “…I can run.”

First Grade Class “Adopts” Sloths to Teach About Rainforest Conservation

The Sloth Institute together with Kids Saving the Rainforest announces the Elementary School Sloth Challenge, inspired by Ms. Megan Yang, 1st grade teacher at West Point Elementary in Surprise, Arizona. Ms. Yang believes in teaching students at a young age about conservation.

“I am using the “adoption” of a sloth as a way to educate students about sloths as well as rainforest conservation. I am hoping by “adopting” Chuck, this will help them become personally invested in rainforest conservation and teach them that if you love wildlife you should keep them in the wild and not as pets”, said Ms. Yang.

Teachers and their classes can join the October “challenge” to honor Sloth International Day, by “adopting” a sloth and submitting an anti pet (sloth) trade slogan thereby bringing awareness to children about the importance of conservation and anti pet trade policies. To “Adopt a Sloth” and participate in the #elementaryslothchallenge, go to http://www.theslothinstitutecostarica.org/adopt-a-sloth/ and request an e-certificate. The class with the best anti pet trade slogan will win a 20 minute skype session with Sam Trull (featured in the recent PBS Special, “Natures Miracle Orphans”) and an orphaned baby sloth being prepared for release.

Doctor Sloth

Well, this week I was awarded my doctorate. It’s a very good feeling! I’ve spent the last 3 and a half years doing this and it’s finally finished.

I won’t graduate until next year, so the celebrations get pretty stretched out!

So this is one happy sloth :)fabsloth

Lonely Planet Costa Rica

How cool is it that the Lonely Planet travel guide for Costa Rica has a cute wee babeh sloth on the book cover?! I spied one in the window of an outdoorsy shop this afternoon. LonelyPlanetScreen Shot 2015-09-24 at 9.32.57 pm

If you’re interested in reading up about Costa Rica, the book is available here!

Busy sloth = sick sloth

It’s been a pretty full on week, this one just gone. Apart from a busy week of work (I’ve now been there for a month!), a number of events took place this week:

Last Monday night saw Australia get its fifth prime minister in as many years. On Tuesday my brother graduated from two of his university degrees. On Thursday some good things happened, PhD-wise. (But I’m not announcing that yet, so stay tuned!) On Friday I went out to dinner with a handful of peeps from the Uni lab – was good to catch up with them! Also on Friday, the boy drove to Melbourne AGAIN to see the Crows take on Hawthorn in the AFL Semi Final… but this time they weren’t so successful. So it would have been a disappointing 8 hour drive home on Saturday. Saturday I got to see my sister and her boyfriend, plus my gorgeous niece, and we went to Bounce Inc and had a v. good time! Sunday the boy and I went to his Aunt’s for a family BBQ lunch.

So it’s been go-go-go lately, and now… now I’m SICK! GAH! Bad cough and sore throat! Stayed home from work today. As I write this, I’m in my study on the spare bed – the sloth bed – sitting amongst them all. Hoping they can make me feel better soon :(
