Busy sloth = sick sloth

It’s been a pretty full on week, this one just gone. Apart from a busy week of work (I’ve now been there for a month!), a number of events took place this week:

Last Monday night saw Australia get its fifth prime minister in as many years. On Tuesday my brother graduated from two of his university degrees. On Thursday some good things happened, PhD-wise. (But I’m not announcing that yet, so stay tuned!) On Friday I went out to dinner with a handful of peeps from the Uni lab – was good to catch up with them! Also on Friday, the boy drove to Melbourne AGAIN to see the Crows take on Hawthorn in the AFL Semi Final… but this time they weren’t so successful. So it would have been a disappointing 8 hour drive home on Saturday. Saturday I got to see my sister and her boyfriend, plus my gorgeous niece, and we went to Bounce Inc and had a v. good time! Sunday the boy and I went to his Aunt’s for a family BBQ lunch.

So it’s been go-go-go lately, and now… now I’m SICK! GAH! Bad cough and sore throat! Stayed home from work today. As I write this, I’m in my study on the spare bed – the sloth bed – sitting amongst them all. Hoping they can make me feel better soon :(

Sad things happened this week.

Few bad and sad things have happened this week.

In my world, someone close to me crashed her car on Wednesday. She’s okay, relatively speaking, but needed surgery on a broken bone last night. So I visited her in hospital this afternoon and will go again tomorrow morning. Hopefully she gets better quickly.  I chose this little sloth (Monster, courtesy of Primatography) to post today, because she is holding a pair of glasses, which reminded me of this person who I treasure so much.

In the wider world, we woke up to the terrible news this morning of the tragic passing of Phil Walsh, coach of the Adelaide Crows AFL team. The boy was particularly affected by his death, as he is quite close to the Club. What a horrible thing to happen.

…Things like this just make you remember how precious life is. It should never be taken for granted.

Soccer SLOTHOOOOOO!!!!!

Last night Australia beat South Korea 2-1 to win the final of the Asian Cup. It’s the Socceroos’ first major win. Although I made an exception for this match, I don’t really get into soccer… as much as I love slow sloths, soccer just doesn’t do it for me in the pace stakes. Still, I did scout out these shirts from Spread Shirt , which handily also come in green or gold so you can support Australia in their next endeavour! sloth soccer shirt

That’s the thing about football

AFL Grand Final day today. I enjoyed it not so much because of the footy but because it’s a whole day of friends, drinks, food, sun and antics. Had a big lunch then got my cider on, followed by a walk to the beach with the girls, came back and watched the second half of football with the guys (Ok, Hawks well dominated Sydney, congrats for the second year in a row), then spent the rest of the day and evening hanging out. Felt very slothful and loving life. slothdirtsleep

Footy Prelims

So my team got knocked out of the finals tonight, Port went down to Hawthorn by 3 points. Disappointing, but what a tense match! Boo :( IMG_6783.PNG

The week that was

I’ve had a fairly busy week this week. My finger is still fractured and very bruised, making work difficult, but apart from that work has been a bit lame with computer stuff taking up all my time.

This weekend so far has been all about the footy. The last round of AFL and the first finals round of SANFL. As I have a football-mad boyfriend you can imagine all the talk going on (“If this team wins by x amount and that team loses to the other team then we just have to win by this much to make the finals…”), to which I smile and nod because, well, I don’t really know tons about it but I embrace his obsessions as he does mine (ie. sloths).

In saying that, my team lost yesterday so we finished fifth on the ladder, and finals start next week, and his team will finish probably ninth or something, so they are out of the finals this year, but his SANFL team won a final, so he’s still happy.

So that’s what’s going on in my life right now, sport, yay. The boy’s gone to another game this afternoon, so I’m at home now with marking and bathrooms waiting to be completed and cleaned respectively. Then the in-laws around for dinner. Making chicken and chorizo paella.

Sloth Football League

Went to the footy at Adelaide Oval tonight. Doza snuck along too! He even sported (see what I did there) a new guernsey just for the occasion. It was a little fast-paced for him but I think he got the gist. Took him a while to realise that the siren had gone and unfortunately our team lost though. Oh well. I think sloths would like a game more like golf, or lawn bowls… something that puts you to sleep…dozafootball

Footy Rivalry

Yesterday went to the Adelaide v Port Adelaide AFL showdown, at the new Adelaide Oval. About 50,000 people there, the atmosphere was incredible! And my team won, so that was even better. Unfortunately the boy was going for the opposition, so it was a bit like this at home:
