Doctor of Philososloth

Yesterday was my graduation ceremony for my PhD degree. PhinisheD! I got to wear the puffy bonnet hat that is part of the PhD academic attire, walk in the academic procession at the start of the ceremony, and sit on stage facing the audience and the undergraduate students. Then my thesis title was read out and I finally got my parchment.

After, we had some photos etc, and… the boy pulled out my Doza, who was sporting his very own academic gown and mortarboard! You could say he has gotten his… Di-slow-ma…

(Diploma, obviously. Ok. Sorry.)IMG_0434

Dozing in the snow

I have been home now for just over 2 weeks. The trip was AMAZING, even the work part was really interesting and relevant to my own research. I captured this shot of Doza on the last day, looking out from our balcony. He didn’t mind the snow, but preferred to be snuggled up near the furnace 😉IMG_0225

Snow bunnies (and sloths)

I am in Colorado for a conference now – at a ski resort up in the mountains. It’s so beautiful! It’s nearing the end of their ski season but there’s still a ton of snow around and plenty of people out enjoying it. I haven’t seen snow since I was 5 years old, so it’s a bit of a novelty to me. Whilst I am not going to go skiing (it’s a conference, I have to work, so a day’s lift ticket is kinda wasted, plus I’m overseas and haven’t skiied before and don’t want to break a leg) I am definitely still enjoying this “winter wonderland”. Today on our afternoon break I went for a trail walk in the woods. It was so lovely, hearing my boots crunch on the ground, watching a squirrel, being alone with my thoughts in a really beautiful place. Although I did sink in up to my knees when I stepped off the path to try and grab a picture of a stream of meltwater. Oh well. I also made a snow sloth. But it was cold so it’s only small.

Oh yeah, and the conference is good too, some great talks blah blah blah.

Family of Sloths

Yesterday I left my US family, who I hadn’t seen in many, many years. I got to spend 4 nights with them and even after all that time they were so amazingly welcoming, lovely and, well, “home”. It was sad to leave. There were a few tears on the plane. Hopefully some day soon I can get back over here – it’s just such a long way.

Babeh sloth family

So I’m off overseas tomorrow morning for just over a week. Primarily, it’s for work (perks, right?) as I’m going to a conference in the US. But I get to spend Easter with family I have over there! Haven’t seen most of them in like, 16 years! I guess most of them have grown up now, huh.

Unlike these BABEH SLOTHS! They are so ADORBS!!slothsanctuary babies

A slothy birthday to me!

Today is my birthday. I have to admit, it’s kind of snuck up on me this year! The boy has planned a nice, lovely day for us – lunch at an Italian restaurant and a movie at the outdoor cinema tonight. party sloth
